Care Leaver Local Offer

Coventry City Council has published a Local Offer for Care Leavers in accordance with Section 2 of the Children and Social Work Act 2017

At Coventry City Council care leavers co-produce the local offer.

Care leavers were part of project team, they met with Directors across the LA, led wider consultation and then made key decisions about what went in offer. Care leavers also led on design and launch of local offer.

Council Tax

Coventry City Council has exempted care leavers from Council Tax

Council tax is exempted up to the age of: 21

Coventry City Council does not include care leavers from other areas in their council tax exemption policy

To apply care leavers need to:
Automatic we also pay for our care leavers living out of area.

Housing

Care leavers receive priority for social housing

Priority is offered up to the age of: 25

Banding priority is: 2A

Additional information / how to qualify:
Automatic entitlement We also offer a ‘second chance’ of this priority if first move to independence does not work out for, backdating this to your 16th birthday.

Care leavers get to practice independent living with taster flats

Training flat young people get two week programme in this whilst still in care

Coventry City Council in principle will assist as a guarantor for care leavers in private rented property

We only do this for young people in higher education.
