Council tax is exempted up to the age of: 25

Gateshead Borough Council does not include care leavers from other areas in their council tax exemption policy

To apply care leavers need to:
Care leavers should speak to their PA.
We also pay council tax for Gateshead care leavers living in other areas.

Housing

Care leavers receive priority for social housing

Priority is offered up to the age of: 25

Additional information / how to qualify:
Care leavers are given priority banding for their first tenancy. They can qualify for subsequent tenancys in certain circumstances eg domestic abuse.

Care leavers from other Local Authorities can receive priority banding in Gateshead once assessed.

Care leavers can live in practice flats within a childrens home or staying close properties.
They can also access taster flats from the Housing company
