Housing

Care leavers do not receive priority for social housing

Care leavers do not get to practice independent living with taster flats

Kent County Council will not in principle assist as a guarantor for care leavers in private rented property

Setting up a home

Special Occasions

Kent County Council pays towards Christmas and other religious celebrations for care leavers

Each year we run a Christmas campaign to raise funding for every care leaver to have a present/voucher up to the value of £10.

Kent County Council pays towards birthday celebrations for care leavers

Details:
As per the KCC Local Offer Birthday Money Allowance:-
• £30 paid on 17th birthday
• £60 paid on 18th birthday
This is arranged by the Children in Care Team’s Social Worker.

There is no payment towards birthday celebration for care leavers who are aged 18+ to 25 years.

Access to care files

Young people do not have to go through the complaints dept to access their care files

Young people who access their care files get emotional support before, during and after disclosure

Support is available through their current or previous allocated Social Worker / Personal Advisor, if it is requested by the care leaver.
