Council Tax
Liverpool City Council has exempted care leavers from Council Tax
Council tax is exempted up to the age of: 25
Liverpool City Council does not include care leavers from other areas in their council tax exemption policy

This can be done independently or with the support of their Personal Advisor.
Please note:
No Council Tax payments until you are 25 years old, if you live outside Liverpool, you will not have to pay council tax until you are 21 years old.

Liverpool Care Leavers get a priority banding A with Property Pool, they will be supported by their PA to submit an application to Property Pool and the PA will provide a supporting letter to confirm that they are a care leaver.
Care leavers do not get to practice independent living with taster flats
Liverpool City Council will not in principle assist as a guarantor for care leavers in private rented property
Liverpool City Council in principle will assist with providing a deposit for care leavers in private rented property
Details:
A deposit for privately rented accommodation if social housing is not available, and the rent is considered affordable.

We have three allocated work coaches who work specifically with our care leavers to support them access EET.
Every care leaver will have an EET Plan which is done in partnership with the young person. This plan will identified the young person’s EET goals and an action that has been agreed to support the young person in achieving their EET goals.

Additional details:
Children in Care Council which includes care leavers attend many meetings with their corporate parents. The opportunities also arise for care leavers not in the Children in Care Council to also meet with their corporate parents.

Young people who access their care files get emotional support before, during and after disclosure

The young person’s personal advisor provides them with emotional support to access their files, when they are reading through their files and with any disclosures. If the young person requires any professional support with their emotions, their Person advisor will make the appropriate referrals.
