Council Tax

Reading Borough Council has exempted care leavers from Council Tax

Council tax is exempted up to the age of: Up to 21 years old

Reading Borough Council does not include care leavers from other areas in their council tax exemption policy

To apply care leavers need to:
Inform council tax department of their tenancy.

Housing

Care leavers receive priority for social housing

Priority is offered up to the age of: 21

Banding priority is: Band B

Additional information / how to qualify:
Priority is up to 21 or 1 year after higher education. Young people must be considered ready to manage a tenancy, they don’t need to do anything if their case is active, if their case is in active they need to contact CSPOA or the Leaving Care Team.

Care leavers get to practice independent living with taster flats

Reading Borough Council will not in principle assist as a guarantor for care leavers in private rented property
