Council Tax
Bexley has exempted care leavers from Council Tax

Council tax is exempted up to the age of: 25

Bexley does not include care leavers from other areas in their council tax exemption policy

To apply care leavers need to:
Care Leaver details are forwarded on directly to Capita via the Leaving Care Service so that all Care Leavers are exempt from paying council tax. Care Leavers do not have to complete any application themselves.
Housing
Care leavers receive priority for social housing

Priority is offered up to the age of: 25

Banding priority is: B

Additional information / how to qualify:
A housing application is completed by the allocated worker which is forwarded on to the housing department via the Leaving Care Service. SNQ (Social Needs Quota) form is completed by the allocated worker to ensure that housing is alerted that this is a Care Leaver so they can be banded accordingly in relation to priority. In addition, the young adult will be expected to complete an online housing application.
Care leavers do not get to practice independent living with taster flats

Bexley will not in principle assist as a guarantor for care leavers in private rented property

Bexley in principle will assist with providing a deposit for care leavers in private rented property

Setting up a home
Care leavers are provided with a setting up allowance
