Council Tax
Harrow has exempted care leavers from Council Tax

Council tax is exempted up to the age of: 25

Harrow does not include care leavers from other areas in their council tax exemption policy

To apply care leavers need to:
Apply on Harrow Council Tax website or speak to their worker for support with applying for exemption (particularly if they live outside Harrow)
Housing
Care leavers receive priority for social housing

We are unable to confirm up to what age priority is offered

Additional information / how to qualify:
Care leavers will be supported to develop and evidence independent living skills during their semi-independent accommodation, and are required to successfully complete MYBNK training before being nominated to the Housing Panel
Care leavers get to practice independent living with taster flats

Additional information:
We have 2 taster flats, and care leavers are also supported in semi-independent accommodation where this meets their needs up to the age of 21
Harrow will not in principle assist as a guarantor for care leavers in private rented property

Harrow in principle will assist with providing a deposit for care leavers in private rented property

Details:
We provide a rent and deposit for care leavers to move into private rented accommodation where this is assessed to meet their needs.
Setting up a home

help you with family tracing and Red Cross services

Young people do not have to go through the complaints dept to access their care files
