Council Tax

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council has exempted care leavers from Council Tax

Council tax is exempted up to the age of: 25

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council does not include care leavers from other areas in their council tax exemption policy

To apply care leavers need to:
Council Tax exception form is completed with support from their Personal Adviser

Housing

Care leavers receive priority for social housing

Priority is offered up to the age of: 25

Banding priority is: 2

Additional information / how to qualify:
Working with personal Adviser and internal housing section gives us the opportunity to prevent any difficulties with housing

Care leavers do not get to practice independent living with taster flats

Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council in principle will assist as a guarantor for care leavers in private rented property

Setting up a home

Care leavers are provided with a setting up allowance

Employment and Apprenticeships

We are currently working with colleagues across the region to look at a common core offer, so all employment opportunities are offered to all young people, especially apprenticeships. We are also looking at work experience opportunities, so young people do not have to work/train in the LA that is their Corporate Parent.
