Care Leavers should link in with the Council Tax Team and their Personal Advisor. They will communicate with one another and ensure the exemption is applied.

Additional information / how to qualify:
Priority for Band 1 applies when a Care Leaver is leaving the care of the Local Authority for example their foster care or supported housing.

Additional information about work and training:
This Local Authority tells us that they are currently in the process of creating a pathway in the Local Authority for work experience. Some of these can be applied for on a case by case basis from the Saint David’s Fund. We also link in with other services such as the Youth Service and the Job Centre for support with this.

Access to care files

Young people who access their care files get emotional support before, during and after disclosure

Details:
Support is provided by their Personal Advisor. Care Leavers over the age of 18 are allocated a reviewing social worker from the Vulnerable People Team. If there is something particularly sensitive, the young person or the Personal Advisor requests they can access support from the social worker also.
