Council Tax
Caerphilly County Borough Council has exempted care leavers from Council Tax
Council tax is exempted up to the age of: 25

Housing
Care leavers receive priority for social housing

Additional information / how to qualify:
The current allocation policy does offer young people who are ready to move on into
independent accommodation from supported accommodation and Band 1 is awarded.
In addition to the above reasonable preference Band 2 will be given for any young person moving on from a residential care setting in the county borough and is regarded as the young person accommodation officer as being vulnerable with a high level of housing need.
Care leavers do not get to practice independent living with taster flats

CCBC have a progress worker based in the 16 Plus team who will support care
experienced young people with their EET pathway, this could include a work experience

Young people have to go through the complaints dept to access their care files
Young people who access their care files get emotional support before, during and after disclosure

Social Worker or Personal Adviser will discuss what questions they are hoping to be
answered by looking at their files and support them around how this would make them feel if they do not get the answers they were hoping for, or they find the information upsetting. This support will be offered prior to and after receiving their files.
