Flintshire County Council has exempted care leavers from Council Tax
Council tax is exempted up to the age of: 25
Flintshire County Council does not include care leavers from other areas in their council tax exemption policy
To apply care leavers need to:
Complete a form with PA and then the PA will forward to the local taxation dept.
Housing
Care leavers receive priority for social housing
Priority is offered up to the age of: 21
Banding priority is: 1 or Flintshire and if they apply to other LA’s this is assessed and banded as per their protocols.
Additional information / how to qualify:
Triaged and at that point PA will confirm their LC status.
Care leavers do not get to practice independent living with taster flats
Flintshire County Council will not in principle assist as a guarantor for care leavers in private rented property

Details:
We will pay one of the following- the first months rent or deposit on their first private property, up to the value of £500
Setting up a home

We work alongside a number of organisations, such as:
Communites for Work, they are an community based advisory service working to increase the employability of individuals who are not in employment, education or training who may face complex barriers to employment. Communities for Work Plus can provide support to help to build your confidence, gain work experience, learn new skills or re-write your CV. Communities for Work Plus will help you as an individual and will meet with you in your local community. This is for young people aged 16 and over.
We Mind The Gap, they offer many programmes, one of which is a life-changing programme for 18+ year olds including six month paid employment, work placements, coaching and mentoring sessions, activity days and experiences.
Jobs Growth Wales- That’s where Jobs Growth Wales+ can help. It’s a great way to boost your confidence and get a taste of work you might be interested in. You’ll also have access to free training, work placements and paid jobs with employers in your area.
Careers Wales- At Careers Wales we can help you to plan your career, prepare to get a job, and find and apply for the right apprenticeships, courses and training.
We also run our own care leaver workshops, focusing on CV building, interview skills etc, aiming to get them involved in work or training. Support our young people to create CVs and cover letters, apply for jobs and attend interviews.

Care leavers have the opportunity to attend our Participation Group each month, sharing thoughts and feedback on services, policies and procedures. They are then encourged to attend our Children's Services Forum, allowing them to feed this back to senior managers and councillors.
We also allow care leavers who have moved on from our service (post 21) to attend our group as a Mentor, supporting younger LAC and care leavers.

Details of council:

We have around 20 YP who attend our group and 10 who attend Forum.
