Additional information / how to qualify:
Usually their worker applies for ‘Move On’ when they feel the young person is ready for their own property and then once they are allocated ‘Move On’ they are given priority banding and they can bid on suitable properties.

Care leavers get to practice independent living with taster flats

Additional information:
We have access to two training flats within RCT and young people are given the opportunity to access the flats for a one-month period to assess their skill level and for them to trial whether they want to live independently

Additional information about work and training:
RCT run an employment scheme for six care leavers per year. This scheme allows young people to be employed by RCT for a two-year period with training and support to ensure they are able to adjust to full time employment. At the end of the two years they are helped to apply for full time vacancies within the council.
