Council Tax
Inverclyde Council has exempted care leavers from Council Tax
Council tax is exempted up to the age of: 26 years old
Inverclyde Council does not include care leavers from other areas in their council tax exemption policy

Throughcare Worker will notify our Local Authority Council Tax Department of the care experience young person and their individual circumstances.
Housing
Care leavers receive priority for social housing
Priority is offered up to the age of: 26 years old
Banding priority is: They access what is called the Nomination for Community Housing Referral process. This gives opportunities for quicker and better housing opportunities appropriate to the client’s needs and circumstances.
Additional information / how to qualify:
Throughcare Worker makes the referral to local Social Landlords. The Nomination process can only be accessed by our care leavers. The referral must be made by an agency supporting the young person.
Care leavers get to practice independent living with taster flats
Additional information:
Local Authority have “transitions flats / houses” to allow care leavers to gain experience and gain the skills required to managing their own tenancy by support from Throughcare and Continued Care support staff.
Inverclyde Council will not in principle assist as a guarantor for care leavers in private rented property
Inverclyde Council will not in principle assist with providing a deposit for care leavers in private rented property
Setting up a home
Care leavers are provided with a setting up allowance
Allowance amount: ££3,800.00 one bedroom_/ £4.400.00 for two bedroom property

Proud2Care, Champs, Mini Champs, Going4ward are made up from primary age to 20 years plus from a variety of care experienced backgrounds with over 40 registered members

Special Occasions
Inverclyde Council pays towards Christmas and other religious celebrations for care leavers
Details:
Care Leavers receive a Christmas present £50.00 gift voucher for their choice of outlet, £40.00 voucher for Christmas shop and £20.00 monetary gift. Care Leavers also receive £120.00 towards winter fuel costs if residing within own tenancy and £80.00 if residing with family.
Inverclyde Council pays towards birthday celebrations for care leavers

£50.00 for both 18th and 21st birthdays including additional provisions on basis of need.
